Central Intelligence Agency
The “Family Jewels”: CIA internal compilation of questionable activities
Report · written May 1973 · released 25 June 2007
Why this matters
A roughly 700-page dossier assembled in 1973 at the order of Director James Schlesinger, listing CIA activities that may have broken the agency's charter: domestic wiretaps and surveillance of journalists, mail opening, and assassination plotting. It fed the Rockefeller Commission and Church Committee, yet the full text stayed secret until 2007. The official scan has no text layer; the National Security Archive's OCR copy is linked as an alternate.
