Farewell Address: drafts and reading copy (Eisenhower Library)

Why this matters
Successive drafts, the reading copy and related correspondence for Eisenhower's January 1961 farewell speech. Comparing drafts shows how the warning about the 'military-industrial complex' was worked out with his speechwriters over many months. Everyone has heard the line; very few have read the edits that produced it.
