National Archives and Records Administration
Nazi War Crimes Interagency Working Group records
Collection · written 1945 · released March 2007
Why this matters
The output of the 1998 Nazi War Crimes Disclosure Act, which forced the release of more than 8 million pages, including CIA and Army files showing that U.S. intelligence protected and used former Nazis after the war. The working group's reports, among them 'U.S. Intelligence and the Nazis' and 'Hitler's Shadow', summarize what the files reveal. Little-browsed and essential to understanding the early Cold War.
