Final 2014 Remedial Action Report, Project Chariot, Cape Thompson, Alaska
Report · written 1 March 2015 · released 1 March 2015
Why this matters
Project Chariot was a 1958 plan to blast a harbor out of the Alaskan coast with nuclear explosives. Iñupiat opposition and early environmental science stopped it, but researchers had already buried radioactive tracer material at the site. This report documents the cleanup decades later and links a famous Plowshare fight to its long tail.
