Federal Bureau of Investigation
Roswell UFO: FBI Dallas teletype of 8 July 1947
Memo · written 8 July 1947 · released April 2011
Why this matters
The FBI's contemporaneous teletype on the Roswell debris, sent the day the base announced it had recovered a 'flying disc'. It relays the military's view that the object looked like a high-altitude weather balloon with a radar reflector, while noting that it was being flown to Wright Field for examination. One of the few records of Roswell that was written as events happened rather than decades later.
